Season is the opposite here, and Funtown cannot get teens to work there anymore, so Shell was thinking about me sending the boys up there, they could stay with her during the week because she literally lives right down the street, and then stay with my folks on the weekends, and also visit with Great Gram and Aunty Heather the whole summer, and they'd be making money etc.
It's a cool idea because they'd get to visit with all the grandparents the entire summer, make paychecks, and have fun working at an amusement park.
Funtown has not changed at all in all of these years.
I went to their site and looked at the attractions, and they still have all of the same rides and stuff they had when I was a kid.
They have added some new stuff, but all of the old and fun rides I rode as a kid are still there.
One of the coolest ones that is still there and has been since 1976, is the Astrosphere.
This is just a Scrambler ride, but it's inside a dome that displays weird and semi-scary images on the dome, has a laser light show, and has played the exact same song since 1976, "Fire on High" by ELO. (Electric Light Orchestra)
This ride is famous, everyone in all of New England knows this ride, people wait in line for hours to get on and ride it, and it is so cool to me that it is still there.
Check out this video that someone made of it and put up on youtube.

I read an article in Down East magazine a while back, about how many of the summer oriented businesses in Maine are having trouble getting help. Many are offering incentives, such as a bonus if you stay the whole summer, or if you refer a friend who stays the whole summer. I know that the touristy stuff in York Beach, such as York's Wild Kingdom zoo & amusement park, forever have Help Wanted signs. Funtown will likely be looking for help next summer, as well.
I've noticed that there are not a lot of teens in southern Maine. I read that a lot of families move out of the state because there's not much good full-time, year round work for the parents. As for families with younger children, the only place I really see those is at Hadlock Field for the Sea Dogs games. The Sea Dogs also provide summer employment for many of the teens and college students that are in the area. Lots of summer jobs, never enough teens to fill them all.
I remember how the boys enjoyed being up in Maine when you guys were there on vacation. They'll like it even better when it's summer, and it's not 20 degrees with two feet of snow on the ground.
I know you would miss them, but then again, you'd get a break from all of the fighting...LOL!
I think your boys would LOVE working there! An amusement park job would have been a dream come true for me as a teenager!
Hi Kat, been such a while since I have visited and I can't believe how big the boys are now. lol. Sounds like they would love the experience. ;)
btw...
didn't know you had more surgery - sending you fast healing vibes girl. was thinking about you today.
